The Great Gatsby – The Great Book

Have you seen the latest Gatsby movie? I have recently read the book for the second time (I bought it much cheaper using Waterstones voucher code!) to refresh my memory and to experience once again this tragic story. It only confirmed my belief that F. Scott Fitzgerald was… genius. I seriously cannot wait to see the movie – I wonder if Baz Luhrmann, an Australian film director, managed to reflect the atmosphere of the novel and the summer of 1922. Did you know that when first published, The Great Gatsby received mixed reviews and sold poorly? In its first year, the book only sold 20,000 copies and Fitzgerald died in 1940 believing himself to be a failure and his work forgotten. Well, what a surprise. What is more, I hope that this movie will be more moving (and less boring) than its previous version starring Mia Farrow and Robert Redford. Maybe this time I will not be disappointed.
